About The Lundstrom Stones.
The Farmer's Walk is a strength event contended at most strongman contests, including the World's Strongest Man and some Scottish Highland Games. The object is to first pick up two very heavy objects which have handles affixed to them, and then walk as far as possible before your grip gives out. While the objects carried can range from iron beams to carbon dioxide tanks, one "Nor'easter" opted for a more traditional approach. Enter John Lundstrom of North Reading, Massachusetts.
"I searched the local quarries where I found two large stones in 1983. After weighing them to make sure that the total weight was over 500 lbs.., I drilled holes, forge welded steel rods through them, and added chains and steel rings. One weighs 274 lbs. and the other one weighs 234 lbs." .. .
"I competed in 1979 at games in the U.S. and Canada where the heaviest Farmer's Walk was 410 lbs. total. I wanted to create the heaviest stones used in any Scottish games. Hundreds of men have lifted them [my stones] from five states in over 50 games. I hold the Master's record in four states with a walk of 46'10"!
